YSRCP demands justice for FMGs

Vijayawada, July 3:YSR Congress Party leaders have condemned the TDP-led coalition government for targeting foreign medical graduates (FMGs) and failing to grant them Permanent Registration (PR) despite their qualifications. In a joint press statement, YSRCP leaders Dr. Gopireddy Srinivas Reddy, Dr. Seediri Appalaraju, Dr. Mondithoka Jaganmohan Rao, Dr. Gajjala Sudheer Bhargav Reddy, and Dr. Sunil criticized the government’s inaction and police brutality against peacefully protesting FMGs.
The leaders stated that FMGs had completed their education abroad, passed the National Medical Commission’s FMGE examination, and finished internships as per guidelines. Yet, the Andhra Pradesh government was refusing to issue PR numbers, even though other states were doing so. They said it was unacceptable to enforce unique and unnecessary conditions only in Andhra Pradesh.
The leaders questioned why students peacefully marching to meet the NTR Health University registrar were stopped and forcefully removed by the police. They noted that many students, including women, were manhandled and pushed into vans. Some had their clothes torn, while others were detained and shifted to AR Grounds.
They said over 700 young doctors were being forced into extended internships beyond the legal limit and unable to pursue PG courses, pushing them into career loss. The YSRCP demanded that the government act democratically and grant immediate PR to all eligible FMGs. They reiterated the party’s full support to the students’ rightful struggle and held the government responsible for the distress caused to these aspiring doctors.
