Tadepalli, June 9: YSRCP has slammed Minister Nara Lokesh for his insensitive remarks and display of arrogance during his visit to console the families of those who died in the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) tragedy.
Speaking to the media here on Tuesday, party spokesperson Vangaveeti Narendra said Lokesh displayed the arrogance of being in power while interacting with trade union leaders when he visited the bereaved families, showing that power has gone to his head.
His behaviour was irresponsible, and instead of being patient and humble, he spoke in a tone and manner that did not suit the tragic situation and the suffering of families who lost their loved ones in the accident.
His remarks in response to the queries raised by trade union leaders were insensitive. It is the trade unions that raise questions on behalf of the affected workers and grieving family members, he said.
Though the TDP made tall promises regarding VSP before the elections, it has not fulfilled even a single one. Instead, it has continued the piecemeal privatisation of VSP and failed to secure any meaningful support from the Centre, he added.
When the LG Polymers tragedy occurred in 2020, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy rushed to the spot to console the victims and announced an ex gratia of Rs 1 crore to each bereaved family within 24 hours, highlighting the stark contrast in leadership and response, he said.
Now, in this hour of grief, the Industries Minister is nowhere to be seen, while Lokesh has chosen to display arrogance at a time when compassion and sensitivity are needed the most.
People are watching every misdeed of the coalition government and will teach it a befitting lesson in the days to come, he said.
