Visakhapatnam, Oct 10: Affirming that the huge public support YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's Narsipatnam tour has drawn shows the solidarity people have expressed over the privatization of medical colleges and the ire they vented against the coalition government.
Speaking to the media here on Friday, former Minister Gudivada Amarnath and KK Raju said the massive response to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's visit shows that people have endorsed our stand against the privatization of medical colleges and our concern over medicare and medical education for poorer sections of society.
Overcoming severe restrictions from the police, supporters rallied behind YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and made the tour a grand success.
They said the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government had given priority to public health and took the initiative to bring in 17 medical colleges, of which classes began in seven. Chandrababu, instead of completing the colleges, has turned them over to the PPP model, which benefits private players. Even free seats would now become costly and unaffordable to poorer sections of society, they said, adding that medicare would now be expensive and corporates would exploit the poor.
People who thronged all along Jagan Mohan Reddy's way interacted with him and raised their issues, for which he expressed solidarity.
Visakha Steel Plant employees met him and narrated their plight and how they were being harassed. Chodavaram sugar factory farmers, bulk drug factory-affected people, and others also met him and shared their grievances.
They took objection to the remarks made by police officials on YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and said it was unbecoming of him to speak like a politician.
They thanked everyone who made the tour a success.
