Tadepalli, July 16: Former Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy strongly criticised the ruling TDP-led coalition government for its authoritarian governance, misuse of police machinery, and suppression of democratic opposition.
Speaking to the media at the party’s central office on Wednesday, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said that only the YSRCP is standing with the people, while the Constitution and rule of law seem absent in the state. He asserted that the YSRCP is the only party consistently responding to public grievances, whether from farmers, women, youth, students, or employees. He further stated that the YSRCP remains the sole voice actively questioning the fake promises and betrayals of Chandrababu Naidu.
YS Jagan recalled how the party has persistently led protests on critical public issues. These include the December 13, 2024, protest demanding crop insurance for farmers, and the state-wide agitation on December 24 against electricity tariff hikes. He mentioned the Yuva Poru protest on March 12 over the cancellation of education schemes like Jagananna Vidya Deevena. He also highlighted campaigns like “Babu Surety, Mosam Guarantee” and “Recalling Chandrababu’s Manifesto,” which exposed the non-fulfilment of major welfare promises.
YS Jagan stated that Chandrababu Naidu, having lost public trust, is misusing police powers to suppress dissent. He condemned the filing of false cases against senior officers such as PSR Anjaneyulu, Sunil Kumar and Kanti Rana Tata. He pointed out that over 80 inspectors and hundreds of constables remain suspended or sidelined, while only pro-TDP officers are being empowered.
He accused certain DIGs and police officers of behaving like mafia dons, collecting bribes from illegal liquor and sand operations and sharing the proceeds with ruling party leaders. He cited the resignation of IPS officer Siddharth Kaushal as an example of the unbearable pressure being exerted by the government on honest officers.
YS Jagan condemned the brutal attack on Krishna ZP Chairperson Uppala Harika by TDP workers, while she was on her way to attend the “Recalling Chandrababu’s Manifesto” event. Despite police presence, the mob attacked her car, hurled abuses at her and her husband, and caused significant damage. Shockingly, no arrests were made, and instead, a false case was filed against her husband. YS Jagan said it was disgraceful that the attackers later mocked her by calling her “mahanati.”
YS Jagan listed multiple instances where false FIRs were filed against YSRCP leaders, during his visits to mirchi yards, mango markets, and condolence meetings for slain party members. Even efforts to support farmers during price crashes were met with police action and mass arrests. He questioned why raising public issues is being treated as a crime under the current regime.
YS Jagan slammed the government for trying to cover up discussions around its unfulfilled manifesto promises, such as failing to deliver jobless youth allowance, LPG cylinders, Amma Vodi, pensions, and fee reimbursement. Despite borrowing Rs 1.75 lakh crore in just 14 months, the government has failed to implement a single major welfare scheme, he said.
YS Jagan concluded with a stern warning, stating that the illegal and oppressive actions of Chandrababu’s government will not go unpunished. He declared that when YSRCP returns to power, justice will be served.
