YSRCP stands with Rajayyapeta farmers, demands immediate withdrawal of Bulk Drug Park

Rajayyapeta, October 22: The YSR Congress Party extended full solidarity to farmers and fishermen protesting the proposed Bulk Drug Park at Rajayyapeta, Anakapalli district. Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Botsa Satyanarayana, Regional Coordinator (North Andhra) Kurasala Kannababu, and District President Gudivada Amarnath visited the site, interacted with villagers, and condemned the government’s repression.
Botsa questioned the double standards of TDP leaders, particularly Home Minister Anitha, who opposed the project earlier citing cancer and pollution risks but now supports it. “When people reject the project, why is the government forcing it on them? Governments must protect lives, not endanger them,” he said. He termed the deployment of 3,000 police in a peaceful village shameful, adding, “Are farmers terrorists?” Botsa reminded that during the YSRCP regime, projects like Bogapuram Airport and Achyutapuram SEZ were implemented only after public consent.
Kannababu said the fishermen’s fears of marine pollution were legitimate. “Home Minister Anitha once claimed this park causes birth defects and cancer — now she defends it. Is this political honesty?” he asked. He demanded the immediate withdrawal of all false cases against protestors, assuring that YS Jagan will revoke them once in power.
Gudivada Amarnath decried police attempts to block YSRCP leaders from visiting the protestors. “We came to support the people, not politicize. We oppose the suppression, not development,” he stated. He recalled that YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, during his October 9 visit, promised full support to the Rajayyapeta farmers’ struggle.
The YSRCP leaders reiterated that industrial development must never violate people’s consent or environmental safety. They demanded the government withdraw the Bulk Drug Park immediately and respect the will of the local communities.
