YS Jagan to console mango farmers on July 9

Tirupati, July 2: Former Chief Minister and YSRCP President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will visit Bangarupalem Market Yard on July 9 to console the mango farmers who are in distress as their produce is not being purchased by pulp factories nor is the government coming to their rescue.

Speaking to media here on Wednesday, former Minister Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy and Bhumana Karunakar Reddy said, the government has miserably failed to provide MSP to mango farmers and the prices have drastically fallen and the pulp factories are reluctant to buy the produce.

It was only during the term of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy that farmers were getting MSP, and his government stood behind them at all times, but the coalition government has been neglecting the agriculture sector, they said.

It is the duty of the government to either ensure that the pulp factories, majority of them owned by TDP sympathizers, or give higher rate to farmers as they are so worried that they are not willing to even take the yield out of the trees.

The friendly media of TDP has been propagating that Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy is behind the syndicate which is not true as majority of the factories are owned by TDP people, they said.

Though Chittoor district is known for its Totapuri variety of mango and stands first in the country, the situation has turned from bad to worse and farmers are a worried lot.

This emergency should be treated as a calamity and instead of Rs 4 the government should raise the price to Rs 10 of pay compensation and the media reports levelled against Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy are utterly baseless, they said.

YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, who has consoled the mirchi and tobacco farmers earlier, will come to the Market Yard to express his solidarity with the suffering farmers, they said.
