Hyderabad/Tadepalli, Oct 4: YSR Congress Party General Secretary and former Chief Whip Gandikota Srikanth Reddy, along with YSRCP SC Cell President and former MLA TJR Sudhakar Babu, slammed Chandrababu Naidu for turning Andhra Pradesh into a hub of spurious liquor and mafia-style liquor syndicates. They charged that under the patronage of TDP leaders, counterfeit liquor is being produced and sold on an industrial scale, endangering lakhs of lives, particularly those of SC, ST, and BC communities.
Addressing the media at the Somajiguda Press Club, Srikanth Reddy said TDP leaders have converted liquor sales into an organised crime syndicate. Belt shops and permit rooms have mushroomed, with one out of every three liquor bottles sold today being counterfeit. He stated that during the pandemic, TDP leaders misused sanitizer permissions to procure massive spirit stocks from Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu, which are now diverted to illegal factories. “Distillery-scale units are producing 15,000 cases of adulterated liquor daily, diluted with chemicals, packaged with fake labels, and distributed through belt shops. This is organised crime under government protection,” he said.
Citing the Mulakalacheruvu raid in Annamayya district, where TDP leader Katta Surendra Naidu was arrested, he said the racket proves TDP’s complicity. Chandrababu and Nara Lokesh are shielding masterminds. He demanded the immediate closure of belt shops and asked why Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, who once railed against adulterated liquor, is silent today.
From Tadepalli, Sudhakar Babu echoed the same concerns, calling it the “CBN syndicate.” He charged that revenue due to the exchequer is being siphoned into TDP leaders’ pockets, aided by the yellow media suppressing coverage of the scam. He recalled how Chandrababu falsely alleged liquor scams during YS Jagan’s tenure, arresting officials and leaders on fabricated charges, while today the liquor mafia flourishes under his watch.
Sudhakar Babu said YS Jagan’s government generated nearly Rs. 1 lakh crore revenue in five years through transparent state-run sales, but under Chandrababu, revenues stagnated despite higher consumption due to corruption and leakage. He stated that over 48 crore counterfeit quarter bottles, worth Rs. 5,300 crore, have already been sold.
He also condemned the desecration of Dr. Ambedkar’s statue in Chittoor, warning that Dalits are unsafe under Chandrababu’s rule. “Villages lack drinking water, but liquor is available 24/7, even door-delivered. Chandrababu promised quality liquor but delivered poison,” he said.
Both leaders warned that the counterfeit liquor syndicate is the biggest betrayal of public trust and demanded the government shut down belt shops, seize permit rooms, and end this mafia that is looting the poor and destroying lives.
