Tadepalli, April 18: YSRCP Legal Cell State President M. Manohar Reddy stated that the Chandrababu Naidu government has been gripped by fear following the “MAVIGUN” proposal, as corruption and irregularities in Amaravati are increasingly being exposed. The government has resorted to filing illegal cases against those questioning it on social media, with harassment extending to journalists and lawyers as well. Despite repeated warnings from courts, there has been no change in police behavior, he cautioned that public backlash against these excesses is inevitable.
He condemned the harassment of former CPRO and YSRCP General Secretary (Media) Pudi Srihari and Telangana journalist K. Venkatarami Reddy (KVR), calling it unjust and politically motivated. He questioned the role of the police, asking why they failed to act when attacks on the houses of leaders like Ambati Rambabu and Jogi Ramesh continued for hours in their presence. He demanded that the ongoing harassment of social media activists be stopped immediately, alleging that the “Red Book Constitution” is being implemented even beyond the state.
Manohar Reddy pointed out that KVR was targeted with an illegal case merely for producing a video on comments made by Maha TV’s Vamsi, and was subjected to severe harassment by AP police. Even after that, he was again implicated in another case in Vizianagaram, and only when Telangana journalists questioned the actions did AP police step back. He questioned whether cases would now be filed against anyone who speaks about the so-called “Red Book Constitution,” which is repeatedly mentioned by Nara Lokesh.
He further stated that even in cases like Savindra, where the CBI had to intervene, courts have made serious observations, yet there has been no correction in police functioning. Highlighting the case of Pudi Srihari, he said that despite having a clean record throughout his journalistic career, he was booked for the first time under the Chandrababu government solely because of his proximity to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
He also questioned the selective targeting by police, asking why no cases have been registered against abusive and derogatory posts made on official TDP platforms against YSRCP leaders. He noted that despite over 200 complaints, no action was taken, and even after 62 complaints against ABN Radhakrishna, no case was registered. Instead, cases were filed against YSRCP leaders who protested.
Manohar Reddy concluded that the “MAVIGUN” proposal introduced by YS Jagan has gained strong public traction, and to divert attention, the ruling party is resorting to abusive rhetoric through its ministers. He demanded that both the government and the police immediately change their approach and uphold democratic values.
