Tadepalli, May 19: Former MLA Koramutla Srinivasulu criticised Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for failing to fulfil his election promise of reducing petrol and diesel prices in Andhra Pradesh. Speaking at the YSRCP central office in Tadepalli, he said Andhra Pradesh continues to record some of the highest fuel prices in the country, with petrol crossing Rs.114 per litre and diesel nearing Rs.103 per litre.
He recalled that before elections, Chandrababu Naidu and Nara Lokesh had promised to reduce VAT on fuel and criticised the previous government over petrol prices. After coming to power, instead of reducing prices, the government is advising people to reduce fuel usage, use bicycles, and observe “No Vehicle Day,” he said.
Srinivasulu stated that petrol prices in Andhra Pradesh are higher than neighbouring states such as Telangana, Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu due to high VAT and additional taxes imposed by the state government. He said the government is collecting 31 percent VAT on petrol along with additional taxes while burdening common people, farmers, transport workers, and middle-class families.
He said YSRCP protests against fuel price hikes across all 175 constituencies received strong public support and warned that the party would intensify the agitation if fuel prices are not reduced immediately.
