A view of the people who attended the public meeting of Smt. Sharmila at Kirlampudi on Tuesday
Kirlampudi
(EG) June 19, 2013: Smt. Y.S. Sharmila, who has been undertaking Maro Praja
Prasthanam Padayatra on behalf of YSR Congress chief Sri Y.S. Jagan Mohan
Reddy, came down heavily on the Congress Government for its failure to supply
seeds and fertilizers in time for the farmers.
Addressing
a huge public meeting at Kirlampudi in EG district on Tuesday, she said the
Government’s lack of foresight on the seasonal requirements of the farming
community like seeds and fertilizers, the farmers are falling prey to the black
market and losing heavily.
“It
is very unfortunate to see longer queues of farmers at seeds and fertilizer
stores even though we are well past through the third week of June,” she said,
adding the Government has no concern for the plight of the farmers.
Smt.
Sharmila said the Central and state Governments have been hiking the rates of
fertilizers whenever the rates go up in the international market but has not
been decreasing the rates in tune with the decreasing rates at international
level.
While
the prices of fertilizers and seeds never went up during the YSR regime, the
prices of fertilizers went up by 300 to 800 percent now, she said and
asked: “YSR forced the BT company to
reduce price of its packet of cotton seeds to Rs.650 when it was selling at
Rs.1850. But now the Government has done nothing to reduce the prices of
fertilizers or seeds despite going through the roof tops.”
Smt.
Sharmila also lashed out at TDP chief
Chandrababu Naidu saying that even his own party leaders are not ready to
believe his rhetoric that he is neither a power monger nor a selfish leader.
