Agriculture & allied sectors take a beating: Mangalagiri MLA

Mangalagiri: YSRCP MLA Alla Ramakrishna Reddy on Thursday expressed concern over the agriculture and allied sectors after the Centre's demonetisation drive in Andhra Pradesh. He said that these sectors are the most affected by the currency ban. Lives of daily-wage earners, handloom weavers and other road-side vendors are thrown into jeopardy.
The Mangalagiri MLA urged the Centre to take necessary measures to resume the economic activity after the slump. Speaking to media persons in a press conference organised in the party office at Mangalagiri, Ramakrishna Reddy opined that the common public would have been exempted if the Centre had taken specific measures while withdrawing the Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes. The lower and middle-class people, who were planned marriages in advance, are severely hit by the Centre's move, he pointed out.
He added that the farmers in the State were in piquant situation when the co-operative banks did not accept the banned notes after the demonetisation. Subsequently, the farmers may completely lose the Rabi season crop. If this happened, there will be severe food security problems in the country, he said.
