Tadepalli, June 19: YSRCP has reiterated its demand for a CBI inquiry into the alleged custodial death of Sai Krishna and the suicide of another youth, V. Kranti Kumar, and slammed the government for waking up only after YS Jagan Mohan Reddy visited and consoled the victim's family.
Speaking to the media here on Friday, former Minister Ambati Rambabu said the government is trying to hush up the case by making the Krishna Lanka CI a scapegoat, while all officials involved, from top to bottom, should be booked and investigated.
He said Chandrababu Naidu's decision to call Sai Krishna's mother only after YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's visit shows how complacent the government has been and how determined it is to suppress the truth.
"It is not enough to register a case against the CI alone. There are many unanswered questions. Complaints alleging the suspected custodial death of Sai Krishna were filed by his aunt and family members seeking information about his whereabouts, but the authorities failed to respond," he said.
Referring to Kranti Kumar, Rambabu said a video statement made by him alleging police torture should also be taken into consideration. "We demand that the CBI inquiry cover not only Sai Krishna's death but also Kranti Kumar's suicide and the circumstances that led to it," he said.
He further alleged that Sai Krishna was brought from Markapur and taken to a hotel where he was tortured. Some photographs related to the incident have surfaced, and the source of those photographs would be disclosed before the court during the hearing, he said.
Rambabu also criticized Jana Sena and its leadership for remaining silent on the issue despite the victim's family openly stating that they were supporters of the party.
"We intervened only after natural justice failed. We stood by a grieving mother who was desperately seeking either her son or at least his mortal remains," he said.
Reiterating the party's stand, Rambabu said YSRCP would continue to support the family and pursue the matter to its logical conclusion in court. "Since we have no faith in the manner in which the government is handling the issue, we demand a CBI inquiry into both deaths," he added.
