Nellore, July 16: Former Minister and YSRCP Nellore District President Kakani Govardhan Reddy strongly condemned the complete collapse of law and order in Andhra Pradesh, stating that the State has become a hub of police excesses, lock-up deaths and Red Book anarchy under Chandrababu Naidu’s coalition rule.
Addressing the media at the YSRCP district office in Nellore, Kakani said the death of Yedukondalu in Manubolu police custody is nothing but a lock-up death. He rejected the SP’s version that Yedukondalu was not in the station and died by consuming pesticide. He said Yedukondalu, Riyaz and Prasad were brutally beaten on July 11 and 12, and asked why the police are not releasing complete CCTV footage of July 13 and 14. Before his death, Yedukondalu told his sister Dhanamma that police subjected him to third-degree torture called “Vimanam,” tying both hands behind and pulling them up. Kakani displayed photographs showing mud marks, severe injuries on the legs and back, a fractured collarbone and a broken finger, and demanded criminal action against the police, Rs. 1 crore ex-gratia and a government job for the family.
Referring to the Buchireddypalem Agriculture Officer Srihari murder case, Kakani said then CI Srinivasa Rao took a Rs. 40 lakh bribe, avoided post-mortem and tried to close the case as an accident despite injuries on Srihari’s body. Though Srihari’s wife complained on June 15 that her brother killed her husband, the FIR was registered only on July 9 after she approached the SP. This police negligence led to the suicide of Harikrishna, his wife Praneetha and children Koushik and Mohan at Singarayakonda, he said.
Kakani said police stations have become “death caves” because officers who buy postings are focused on collections. He demanded transparent investigation and strict action against guilty officials, warning that YSRCP will intensify its fight for the victims.
