Employment Guarantee Scheme Funds Misused In AP
26 Oct 2017 11:16 AM

The prestigious Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme meant to provide livelihoods to the poor in the villages was not under implementation in true spirit in Andhra Pradesh as the funds were diverted to other sectors.
Ever since Chandrababu Naidu assumed CM office, government diverted the funds for the last three years. Virtually, the scheme was disbanded in the whole Andhra Pradesh. The plights of the poor intensified and they faced similar problems encountered before 2004 in Chandrababu rule in United Andhra Pradesh.
During farmer Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy's regime, all migrants returned to their native places as the employment guarantee programme was enforced in true spirit. The employment act mandated every enrolled worker should be provided job within 15 days. If failed, the concerned authority should be punished. The TDP leaders also misused the scheme by replacing man power with machines.
