Bhumana sleeps at burial ground!

Protests are of different kinds and Tirupati YSR Congress MLA Bhumana Karunakara Reddy always turns innovative to protest on public issues or express his demands seeking solutions to people’s problems.

Karunakara Reddy last night slept at the burial ground in Tirupati demanding allotment of land for a permanent burial ground for the people of Padmavathi Puram, Lahshmipuram and Sriniasa Puram areas in the town.

This is first time that any MLA has taken up such a unique protest on behalf of the people in the state. Karunakara Reddy recently rode on a horse and went round the streets of Tirupati to express his opposition to the diesel price hike and capping of the subsidized cooking gas supply.

“There are around 60,000 people living in these areas and they don’t have a proper burial ground. People are being forced to burn dead bodies on the roadsides,” he said, adding the authorities should allot the vacant government land of two acres for this purpose at least now.

Karunakara Reddy said the late YSR had directed the authorities to allot the land for the purpose of burial ground but the orders were not implemented due to his sudden death. “The allotment is pending for the last three years. The Government is neither giving house sites to people nor burial ground to burn dead bodies after their death,” he said sarcastically, warning the authorities that he will continue to fight till the land is allotted.
