Anantapur, June 24: YSRCP leaders announced a mass protest and collective hunger strike on June 26 at the Gandhi statue in Tadipatri, condemning the murder attempt on party leader Gangulakunta Keshava Reddy. The party called upon cadre, public organizations, and citizens to participate in large numbers in support of democracy and against political violence.
After visiting Keshava Reddy at Anantapur Government General Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment, YSRCP Anantapur District President Anantha Venkatarami Reddy, Tadipatri Coordinator Kethireddy Peddareddy, Uravakonda Coordinator Visweswara Reddy, and Kalyandurg Coordinator Talari Rangaiah addressed the media. They stated that Keshava Reddy was attacked near a police station in Tadipatri and that the assailants later attempted another attack at the hospital, even resorting to stone pelting. They said the incident exposed the collapse of law and order and demanded the immediate arrest of all those involved.
The leaders said attacks on opposition leaders, attempts on their lives, and destruction of property have become frequent under the coalition government. They criticized the police for remaining passive and stated that officials were failing to act impartially. They also expressed concern over the role of district authorities, saying that inaction had encouraged repeated acts of violence.
YSRCP leaders affirmed that they would confront such incidents through legal and democratic means and warned that continued attacks on party workers and opposition leaders would be met with a statewide democratic movement. They reiterated that those responsible for the attack on Keshava Reddy must be brought to justice without delay.
