Tadepalli, July 21: YSRCP State General Secretary and MLC Lella Appi Reddy has written to the Election Commission of India and the Chief Electoral Officer, Andhra Pradesh, urging them to postpone the ongoing polling station rationalisation exercise until the publication of the Final Electoral Roll and to immediately intervene against alleged irregularities in voter mapping during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026.
In his representation, Appi Reddy stated that while polling station rationalisation is an important administrative exercise, carrying it out simultaneously with the ongoing SIR will create confusion and disrupt the electoral roll revision process. He said the existing polling station structure is the basis for house-to-house verification, voter mapping, claims and objections, and preparation of the Draft Electoral Roll. Any change at this stage would create administrative complications and increase the possibility of voter mapping errors.
He urged the Election Commission to publish the Draft Electoral Roll based only on the existing polling stations and implement the revised polling station structure only after the publication of the Final Electoral Roll. This, he said, would ensure clarity for voters, Booth Level Officers (BLOs), Booth Level Agents (BLAs), political parties and election officials while maintaining transparency throughout the revision process.
Appi Reddy also expressed serious concern over alleged irregularities in voter mapping across the State. He said reports from several districts indicate that, under pressure from local TDP leaders, BLOs are allegedly mapping persons who are not ordinary residents without insisting on valid documentary proof. At the same time, many genuine electors are reportedly being marked as "non-mapped" despite being eligible voters, raising fears of arbitrary deletion from the electoral rolls.
He requested the Election Commission to conduct an immediate inquiry into these complaints, direct BLOs to follow the law and Election Commission guidelines strictly, restore wrongly classified genuine voters, and ensure that no political influence interferes with the statutory duties of election officials.
Appi Reddy urged the Election Commission to protect the integrity of the Special Intensive Revision, safeguard every eligible citizen's constitutional right to vote, and ensure that the electoral roll revision process is conducted in a free, fair, transparent and impartial manner.
