Gannavaram, Aug 7: Former Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has assured full support to part-time lecturers, unaided lecturers and non-teaching staff working in aided junior colleges across Andhra Pradesh. He said the YSR Congress Party will stand by them until justice is done and will continue to raise their legitimate demands before the government through every available forum.
Representatives of the Andhra Pradesh Aided Junior Colleges Part-Time Lecturers Association met Jagan Mohan Reddy at Gannavaram Airport on Friday and submitted a memorandum explaining their long-pending issues. The association's President, Ariga Joshi Rao, urged Jagan Mohan Reddy to take up their demands with the government and ensure that they are addressed.
The representatives informed YS Jagan Mohan Reddy that part-time lecturers, unaided lecturers and non-teaching staff have been serving in aided junior colleges for the past 15 to 25 years. They said that despite their long years of service, they continue to be denied proper salaries, job security and welfare benefits.
They told him that they are urging the government to give priority to experienced part-time and unaided lecturers while filling contract teaching posts under the 10+2 education system. They requested that their years of service, qualifications and teaching experience be given due weightage while making appointments.
The representatives further informed YS Jagan Mohan Reddy that they are seeking implementation of the minimum time scale for part-time and unaided staff and enforcement of the principle of equal pay for equal work. They also requested the government to formulate a special policy for the regularisation of employees who have been serving for many years by taking into account their service, qualifications and experience.
After listening to their grievances, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said the government has a responsibility to ensure justice for those who have been serving the education sector for many years. He assured them that the YSR Congress Party would fully support their cause.
He further said the party would take up their legitimate demands with the government and continue to press for an early and just resolution of their long-pending issues.
