*YSRCP demands justice for assaulted tribal woman*

Nellore, June 27: YSRCP Women’s Wing Working President Kakani Poojitha demanded immediate justice for the tribal woman who was publicly stripped, assaulted, and humiliated in Kavali, and called for stringent action against the TDP leaders responsible for the attack. Addressing the media at the YSRCP district office in Nellore, she said attacks, atrocities, and violence against women had reached alarming levels within two years of the coalition government taking office.

Poojitha said the incident exposed the complete collapse of women’s safety in the state. She stated that the tribal woman, a widow living with her children, was brutally assaulted and publicly humiliated, yet instead of acting against the attackers, the police registered a case against her son. She questioned how people could have faith in the police when the incident occurred on June 19 but no case was registered until June 26, while the victim’s whereabouts and treatment were kept away from the public.

She said the woman’s son was targeted for being in a relationship with a Muslim girl and criticized the police for siding with the family of a former TDP councillor instead of protecting the victim. Referring to another incident in Duttalur mandal, where a woman named Sujatha was assaulted, she said no case had been registered there either, reflecting selective policing.

Poojitha said the Sai Krishna and Kranthi Kumar cases had already exposed the functioning of the police system and created fear among the public. She urged Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha to personally visit the tribal woman’s family, ensure justice, and initiate strict legal action against all those responsible for the assault. She also called upon the police to function according to the law rather than political directives
