Visakhapatnam, Oct 1: YSRCP MLC and State Women’s Wing President Varudu Kalyani demanded that the coalition government use its influence at the Centre to secure constitutional and legal protection for 34 per cent BC reservation instead of issuing orders that cannot withstand judicial scrutiny. She said coalition MPs should be prepared to resign and pressure the NDA government to enact the necessary law if they were genuinely committed to BC representation.
Kalyani questioned how Chandrababu Naidu, a four-time Chief Minister, could be unaware of the legal limitations surrounding the 50 per cent reservation ceiling. She also sought disclosure of the action taken on the Manjunatha and Rajiv Ranjan Mishra Commission reports and said failure to hold local-body elections during 2014–19 deprived BCs of thousands of political opportunities and affected Central funding.
She said YSRCP would take the issue to every village and explain the coalition government’s failure to secure legally sustainable BC reservation.
Recalling the Y.S. Jagan government’s record, Kalyani said 56 corporations covering 139 BC communities were established and BC issues were raised in Parliament through Private Member’s Bills. She cited Rs. 1,22,451 crore in DBT and Rs. 50,657 crore in non-DBT benefits for BCs. She also said YSRCP wanted local elections conducted only after completion of voter-roll revision, ensuring a clean and transparent final electoral roll.
