Tadepalli, Oct 1: YSRCP leaders Velampalli Srinivas, Malladi Vishnu and Devineni Avinash slammed the coalition government’s housing patta programmes, stating that it was staging fresh publicity events in the name of housing for the poor while neglecting the layouts and colonies developed during the Y.S. Jagan government.
Former Minister Velampalli Srinivas said the government staged one show in Visakhapatnam and another in Vijayawada, claiming to distribute housing pattas without delivering corresponding benefits on the ground. He said YS Jagan government not only provided house sites to the poor but also developed layouts and spent thousands of crores on infrastructure in Jagananna colonies. With local body elections approaching, the coalition was once again trying to mislead the poor through publicity-driven programmes, he said.
Former MLA Malladi Vishnu said the YSRCP government developed 17,500 layouts for housing the poor and planned nearly Rs. 32,900 crore towards infrastructure in Jagananna colonies. The objective was to provide each beneficiary family with a house site, a home and essential infrastructure, thereby creating a valuable asset. He questioned why the existing Jagananna colonies were being neglected if the present government was genuinely committed to housing the poor.
NTR District YSRCP President Devineni Avinash said hurried programmes ahead of elections would not resolve the problems faced by poor families. He demanded that the government place before the public complete figures on house sites, promises fulfilled and development of housing colonies.
The leaders said people should compare what the poor received under the YSRCP government with what they have received since the coalition came to power. They asserted that YSRCP would continue to stand with the poor in protecting their rights, homes and lands.
