YSRCP demands action against police negligence
20 May 2025 2:18 PM

Vijayawada, May 20: YSRCP leaders, including MLCs Lella Appireddy, Pandula Ravindra Babu, Varudu Kalyani, and former MLA Malladi Vishnu, met State Election Commissioner Neelam Sawhney to protest the Andhra Pradesh police’s failure to protect YSRCP councillors during the Tiruvuru Municipal Chairman election. They criticised the police for defying Election Commission and court orders, colluding with the TDP-led coalition to intimidate councillors, and enabling attacks by TDP MLA Kolikapudi Srinivas. Evidence of police complicity, including arrests of YSRCP members and violations of Section 144, was presented.
MLC Varudu Kalyani said, “The police are violating Election Commission orders, casting doubt on constitutional governance. YSRCP’s majority is being undermined by TDP’s tactics.” MLC Lella Appireddy added, “TDP’s desperation has turned Andhra into a lawless state worse than Bihar. Police are enabling goonda tactics.” Former MLA Malladi Vishnu demanded, “Police must answer for obstructing councillors and ignoring court orders. We demand secure elections.”
YSRCP called for strict action against erring police officials and a fair election process, vowing to safeguard democracy through legal action.
