Tadepalli, June 23: YSRCP General Secretary and MLC Lella Appi Reddy has lodged a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer of Andhra Pradesh, alleging interference by TDP leaders in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the State.
In a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer, Appi Reddy objected to the participation of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Ponguru Narayana in a review meeting on voter list revision held in Nellore on June 22. He said the meeting was attended by the Minister, Devarakonda Sujatha, spouse of the Nellore Mayor, Deputy Mayor Roop Kumar Yadav, municipal officials and a large number of Booth Level Officers (BLOs).
Appi Reddy stated that the preparation and revision of electoral rolls is a statutory process that must be conducted exclusively under the supervision of the Election Commission. He said the involvement of TDP leaders in an official review meeting on voter list revision raises serious concerns about political interference in an independent constitutional process.
Citing Article 324 of the Constitution, he said the Election Commission is mandated to function independently and free from political influence. He urged the Election Commission to conduct an immediate and impartial inquiry into the Nellore meeting and identify officials who violated election norms by participating in a review attended by political leaders.
He demanded disciplinary action against the officials concerned and sought their removal from election duties until the inquiry is completed. Appi Reddy also urged the Election Commission to issue directions prohibiting ministers and elected representatives from participating in voter list revision reviews anywhere in the State. He submitted photographs and video recordings of the Nellore meeting as evidence along with his complaint.
