*YSRCP demands Rs. 1 crore compensation for each for missing fishermen’s family*

Visakhapatnam, July 9: YSR Congress Party leaders demanded Rs. 1 crore compensation for each family of the fishermen who went missing in the recent boat tragedy off the Visakhapatnam coast and called for comprehensive rehabilitation measures for all affected families. YSRCP Visakhapatnam District President K.K. Raju, Vizianagaram District President Majji Srinivasa Rao and former MLA Vasupalli Ganesh visited fisherman Chinna, who survived the accident and is undergoing treatment at KIMS Hospital. Former Chief Minister and YSRCP President Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy spoke to Chinna over the phone, enquired about the sequence of events leading to the tragedy, offered words of comfort and assured him that the party would press the government to provide complete assistance. He also said he would personally visit Visakhapatnam to meet the affected families if required.
Speaking to the media, the YSRCP leaders said the government’s response and compensation were inadequate and insisted that justice must be ensured for every affected family. They demanded ₹1 crore compensation for each missing fisherman’s family, special financial assistance to survivor Chinna and full compensation for the fishing boat that sank. The leaders stated that despite weather warnings and information reaching the authorities, effective emergency preparedness, boat tracking and timely rescue operations were not carried out. They called for a permanent marine safety system, including a dedicated war room to monitor fishing vessels and coordinate emergency rescue operations. The leaders further said the government failed to keep families informed and neglected Chinna despite his survival and hospitalization. Reaffirming YSRCP’s commitment, they stated that the party would continue to stand with the affected fishermen and pursue justice until every family receives adequate compensation, rehabilitation and long-term livelihood support.
