Machilipatnam, Aug 13: Former Minister and YSRCP Krishna district president Perni Venkatramaiah (Nani) strongly criticised Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for sidelining the DGP and directly conducting a video conference with nearly 1,100 SHOs, CIs and DSPs across the state, alleging that the move was aimed at bringing lower-level police officers directly under his influence and using the police machinery in the coming municipal and panchayat elections.
Speaking to the media in Machilipatnam, Nani said law and order had deteriorated badly. He questioned why social media posts were being treated as serious crimes while the death of a young woman doctor in Rajahmundry after being hit by a car was treated as an accident case. He also referred to an incident in which a ganja gang attacked a policeman and allegedly tried to stab him.
He questioned the silence of Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha and criticised Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan for merely tweeting after such incidents. He also accused the government of weakening the Disha system meant for women’s safety. Nani criticised the government’s publicity over Amaravati while Krishna Delta farmers were struggling for irrigation water and fertilisers. He alleged that farmers’ lands were being taken in the name of further phases of capital development.
Rejecting Bonda Uma’s allegation that he and his family paid Rs 50 crore, Nani challenged him to produce CCTV footage, photographs or any evidence. He said that if the allegation was true, the government should order an ED case and prosecute both the person who paid the money and whoever received it.
