YSRCP seeks removal of TDP publicity violating poll code

Tadepalli, Oct 15: YSRCP has urged the Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission to act immediately against the continued display of TDP flex banners, hoardings and cutouts across the State despite the Model Code of Conduct being in force for local body elections.

In a letter to the Commission, YSRCP MLC Lella Appi Reddy complained that publicity material featuring Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Minister Nara Lokesh and other TDP leaders continued to be displayed. He said municipal, panchayat and revenue officials were turning a blind eye to these displays.

He said TDP leaders were erecting publicity material to impress their leadership and demonstrate political influence ahead of the elections. Official inaction raised serious concerns about impartial enforcement of the poll code, he added.

Appi Reddy requested the Commission to direct District Collectors and District Election Authorities to ensure the immediate removal of material violating the code, prevent fresh unauthorised installations and act against those responsible.

He also sought time-bound, district-wise compliance reports and accountability for officials who failed to enforce the Commission’s directions. He urged uniform enforcement to ensure a level playing field.
