*Women’s commission missing in action: YSRCP demands accountability*

Mangalagiri, June 24, 2026: YSRCP women leaders on Tuesday slammed the Andhra Pradesh State Women’s Commission for its continued silence and inaction amid increasing attacks, harassment, and derogatory remarks against women across the state. Speaking to the media outside the Women’s Commission office in Mangalagiri, YSRCP leaders Uppala Harika, Rayana Bhagyalakshmi, Bandi Punyaseela, and Are Shyamala said they had submitted five separate representations highlighting various incidents involving attacks on women, harassment of women public representatives, social media abuse, and atrocities against Dalit women.

The leaders expressed disappointment that the Women’s Commission Chairperson was not available at her office and said the representations had to be submitted to Commission Secretary Anuradha. They questioned why the Commission had failed to take suo motu action in several serious cases involving attacks on women, public humiliation, social media trolling, morphing, and violence against women despite widespread public concern.

Uppala Harika stated that attacks and insults against women have increased under the coalition government and alleged that even senior coalition leaders, including the Home Minister, have used objectionable language in public discourse. She recalled the attack on her and the vandalisation of her vehicle, stating that no action had been taken against those responsible. She demanded strict action against offenders and called for immediate suo motu intervention in cases involving women’s safety.

The YSRCP leaders also expressed concern over incidents such as lockup deaths, suicides, attacks on Dalit women, and growing law-and-order failures, stating that the government has failed to provide adequate protection to women. They alleged that despite repeated complaints at police stations, the DGP’s office, and the Women’s Commission, meaningful action has been lacking.

The leaders urged the Women’s Commission to discharge its constitutional responsibilities impartially and act decisively to protect women’s dignity, safety, and rights. They asserted that the state government has failed to ensure security for women and accused it of neglecting both women’s welfare and empowerment while remaining indifferent to rising incidents of violence and harassment.
