Visakhapatnam : YSRCP Women’s Wing State President and MLC Varudu Kalyani strongly condemned the horrific assault on an 11-year-old Dalit minor girl in Payakaraopeta, calling it a shocking reflection of the complete collapse of women’s safety under the Chandrababu Naidu-led coalition government. Speaking at the YSRCP city office in Visakhapatnam, she said the incident occurring in Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha’s own constituency exposes the government’s failure in maintaining law and order.
Varudu Kalyani said the minor girl was brutally assaulted, tied up, physically tortured, and threatened with death if she spoke about the incident. She questioned why the Home Minister had still not responded or visited the victim’s family despite the gravity of the crime. She said the Home Minister has time for musical nights, volleyball, and kabaddi events, but not for consoling a traumatised Dalit minor girl in her own constituency.
The MLC stated that women and girls no longer feel safe anywhere in Andhra Pradesh under the coalition government. “There is no safety at home, no safety on the way to school,” she said, adding that Chandrababu Naidu has emerged as a “failure Chief Minister” while Anitha has become an “ineffective Home Minister.” She pointed out that even the government’s own internal surveys presented during the Collectors’ Conference revealed a sharp rise in crimes against women across 21 districts, exposing growing public anger over deteriorating law and order.
Varudu Kalyani said the coalition government had promised to eliminate ganja within 100 days of coming to power, but instead the State has witnessed rising crimes, ganja abuse, liquor menace, and increasing atrocities against women and children. She referred to recent incidents in Madanapalle, Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, and Vijayawada as evidence of the worsening situation.
She further stated that Andhra Pradesh has now become one of the leading states in crimes against women and criticised the government for failing to control the unchecked spread of liquor and narcotics. She said the dismantling and weakening of systems like Disha App, Disha Police, and the village secretariat mechanism introduced during YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s government has directly affected women’s safety across the State.
Demanding immediate action, Varudu Kalyani urged the government to extend full support to the victim’s family, ensure a thorough investigation, and impose the strictest punishment on the accused.
