*Ganja found in a police vehicle shows collapse of system: YSRCP*

Tadepalli, Aug 18: YSRCP State Spokesperson Vangaveeti Narendra said the reported discovery of ganja and liquor bottles in a vehicle carrying police officers in Prakasam district shows the serious deterioration of governance under the coalition government. He demanded an impartial inquiry into the incident at Sankhavarappadu in Addanki mandal and action against anyone found responsible.

Addressing the media at the YSRCP central office, Narendra questioned what happened to the coalition leaders’ promise to eliminate ganja within 100 days. He also questioned their claims of using drones to detect and destroy ganja cultivation.

Narendra said the vehicle reportedly carried two police officers, while ganja, liquor bottles and police uniforms were found in its boot. He questioned why the Prakasam SP gave an explanation only after 24 hours. If the ganja had been seized earlier by police, the government should disclose where it was recovered, the quantity seized, the source of the complaint and why the officers were in civil dress, he said.

He said the YSRCP government had established the Special Enforcement Bureau and launched Operation Parivartana against ganja cultivation and trafficking. He said 220 cases were registered, 384 people arrested and over 18,686 kg of ganja seized by September 2021. Around two lakh kg of ganja powder was destroyed between 2020 and 2022, while the 14500 toll-free number was introduced to receive information on illegal ganja activities.

Narendra demanded a fair investigation and said no action should be taken against people who recorded the incident. He urged the police to uphold the Constitution and not allow the force to be used for implementing the ruling party’s “Red Book” agenda.
