Unabated sand mining posed major threat:

Srikakulam: The evil deeds of TDP leaders is increasing day by day. They are tossing the lives of people. Sand mining is done near the bridge to make Crores of rupees.

The unabated sand mining lead to major threat to the new bridge being constructed on Nagavali River. This bridge is proposed to provide connectivity between and old and new Srikakulam. With this, 20 colonies such as Gujarati peta, P N colony and other colonies will be connected to the main town Srikakulam. But near the pillars of the bridge, being constructed, lot of sand is been removed on a large scale. Daily sand worth a crore of rupees is been mined.

The locals who had been facing many problems with the dismantling of the old bridge three years ago fear that the new bridge would not solve their problems if the Government compromises on the quality and strength of the new bridge.

Recently, the government had created the sand ramp in Hayatnagar which turned a gold mine for the sand transporters. It is estimated that over Rs.1 crore worth of sand is being lifted every day from the ramp which is very close to National Highway-16. Illegal lifting of sand from Hayatnagar ramp is rampant with the reported nexus between officials and transporters.

Many lorries and tractors are reportedly moving in night time also, forcing the locals to agitate against the ramp in their vicinity. YSR Congress Party led by former Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao, has organized massive agitation at Hayatnagar and asked the district Collector to conduct a thorough inquiry into the issue and take necessary steps for the protection of new bridge. Will they stop this sand mafia to protect the people or will maintain silent due to fear is yet to know.
