NTR Housing Scheme- A Non Starter In AP
27 Mar 2018 1:14 PM

Chandrababu Naidu's ambitious scheme NTR Housing program for poor is remain a non starter in the state. Though Chandrababu made promise that all eligible will be provided houses to all poor on 2014 election manifesto, no concrete steps were taken towards achiving the goals.
So far, government has received 19, 73, 780 applications out of which 2,18, 591 have been rejected. The remaining 17, 55, 189 applications were still pending. 79 per cent of them have been for housing program.
In the present year, government targeted to build 3 Lakh houses. Minister K Srinivasulu also announced the completion of houses in three months. Before 2019 elections, he also made the promise of the completion 10 lakh houses. The difference between the allocations and targets indicated government's sincerity in the implementation of the scheme.
In 2018-19 financial year, Chandrababu earmarked Rs 1457 crore for houses. As the government allotted Rs 2 lakh for each house, it will construct only 7285 houses. Each Assembly Constituency will get only 41.62 houses only. Each mandal will get not more than 11 houses and every village will be provided less than one house.
Government's allocation of funds and pace of works at the ground level has shown Chandrababu Naidu's commitment in proving housing to the poor.
