Withdraw power hike proposal: YSRCP

Hyderabad, January 12: Reiterating its demand to review the proposal of increasing power charges, YSR Congress has said the Kiran Kumar Reddy government has been very harsh on the people and it seems that the Chief Minister has vowed to take the Party to an all-time low in the State.

“We demand the government to reconsider the proposal of increasing power charges after April which will burden the consumers by Rs 12,723 crores. Such anti-people decisions will evoke strong anger from all sections of the society and will spell a death knell to the party at the hustings,” YSRCP Deputy floor leader Sobha Nagi Reddy told reporters here on Saturday.

The state has been very ruthless on consumers and the common man has to bear a burden of Rs 32,000 crores during the three years of Congress rule, if the fresh proposal is accepted, she said.

On the eve of festival, RTC has increased the fares and it is also toeing the private path by collecting variable fares and has also used force at various places, she said.

Press Release

People are very unhappy with the governance as they are being taxed heavily, she said adding that bus fares, current charges, gas and fuel charges have gone up and the festival has very little for them to cheer up, she said.

Ridiculing the Chief Minister’s statement that the hike in power charges would not be much of a burden, she said, SC and ST colonies are being blacked out even if there is a single defaulter.

The power bills are too heavy and unprecedented as no other state has imposed such huge surcharge and reverting to the non-telescopic method of billing will inflate the bill amount enormously, she said.

Leader of Opposition N Chandrababu Naidu has been using kid gloves in criticising the State government by issuing statements like this government has no right to continue for a single day. Such statements only show off his bravado as he has been shielding the Kiran Kumar Reddy government since long, she said.

When asked about Sharmila’s padayatra, she said, Sharmila has been undergoing physio therapy which will take five to six weeks. Then depending on the doctor’s advice she will take a call, Sobha Nagi Reddy said.

Refuting the charges that she has differences with the Party, she said, “I was away in Kerala when party honorary president YS Vijayamma led the dharna at Kurnool and could not come.”

On red sanders issue she said, one media channel has been very hostile and has been beaming false allegations. We have filed a suit for damages as there is no truth in the story, she added.
