Speaker: Jagan Mohan Reddy -Mar12,2012

Reaffirming the faith in empowerment of people, YSR Congress Party President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday said that the party will strive to usher in a value-based politics and stand for credibility in public life.

Speaking on the first anniversary of the Party after hoisting the flag, he said, change in the present political system and working for the ideals of YSR to bring in a welfare state is high on the party agenda.
It is the people’s response that has kept the Party moving in the first year of its formation, during which time there were many troubles and turmoil. “We could wade through them with the support of the people who still remember the golden era of YSR,” he said.

Initially, there was discouragement from many quarters. Doubts were raised whether I could take to the people the party symbol (fan) properly or not. Some of them said that coming out of Congress would be suicidal. They tried to lure me with party posts and cabinet berth, but I did not yield.
Recalling the day and the scene of helicopter crash which claimed the life of YSR, he said, nearly 600-700 people have died after the tragedy and I have decided to hold OdarpuYatra, which was not liked by the Party bosses.

“I believed what my heart said and took the decision and the party was formed and it is the people’s response and faith they repose on us that makes the party popular,” he said amidst big round of applause.

It is not how many days you live but how good did you live is all that matters, he said and acknowledged the efforts of the 17 MLAs who stood for the YSR ideals and sacrificed their seats. Our party works for the poor and farmers and these are the focus areas, he said.

Meanwhile, YSR Congress Party Honourary President YS Vijayamma, who hoisted the party flag at Idupulapaya, said the party has come into existence to serve the poor and downtrodden and to carry forward the ideals of YSR.

After paying homage to YSR, she told party workers that they would always stand by the people on all occasions and strive for people’s welfare.

Only YSR can have the credit of running the government without imposing   even one rupee more tax. He worked hard and was singlehandedly brought back Congress to power for the second time. It is very sad to learn that the present government has been ignoring YSR schemes.
YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has stepped into his father’s shoes and he has been fighting for the people’s cause and is surging, she added.
