*YSRCP demands immediate resignation of Putta Mahesh*
Tadepalli, March 16: YSRCP Bapatla district president and former minister Merugu Nagarjuna demanded that TDP MP Putta Mahesh Yadav immediately resign from the Lok Sabha after drug tests confirmed cocaine use. Speaking at the YSRCP central office in Tadepalli, he said the MP’s continuation in Parliament is unacceptable and accused Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu of protecting him instead of taking action.
Nagarjuna said issuing show-cause notices instead of suspending the MP is nothing but a delaying tactic. He demanded that Chandrababu ensure Putta Mahesh resigns from the Lok Sabha without further delay.
He said Chandrababu promised a drug-free Andhra Pradesh within 100 days of coming to power but has instead turned the state into a hub for drugs, ganja and illicit liquor. Drug seizures across the country are increasingly being traced back to Andhra Pradesh.
Nagarjuna highlighted that during the Y.S. Jagan government, the Special Enforcement Bureau destroyed ganja cultivation in about 11,500 acres and spent Rs. 500 crore to provide alternative livelihoods to farmers, demonstrating the government’s commitment to eliminating narcotics.
He said despite clear evidence of cocaine use in blood tests and the MP’s participation in the farmhouse party, the government is protecting him. The administration is buying time through inquiries, committees and notices instead of acting decisively.
Nagarjuna said the government shows double standards—YSRCP workers were arrested and paraded in public even for minor incidents, but a ruling party MP involved in drugs is being shielded.
He demanded immediate resignation of Putta Mahesh Yadav and a full investigation into the drug network, stating that the government must prove it has the will to control drugs instead of protecting those responsible.
