Press Release
Vijayawada, March 26, 2013: Sharmila took the Krishna district by storm with a colossus of an entry as the Maro Praja Prastham padayatra was welcomed by a mammoth gathering at the Prakasam barrage.
While the padayatra was coming like a whiff of fresh air from the banks of Krishna river, the Prakasam barrage was packed with well wishers, sympathisers and party workers who extended an overwhelming welcome to the Sharmila as slogans of Jai Jagan rent the air.
The venue was spruced up to suit the occasion and the party flag running over one km was fluttering at the barrage which connects the Guntur and Krishna district. The farewell and welcome were equally rapturous.
The huge turnout at the entry point will have its signature tune to the course ahead in the district as the politically sensitive region is looking towards the change going by the sequence of events that unfolded during recent past.
Sharmila’s padayatra will cover 300 km spread across 14 constituencies and she will interact with people at various places besides addressing public meetings.
She crossed the Prakasam barrage on the 102nd day of her padayatra covering 225 villages in 14 assembly segments spread over 371.5 km.
Later addressing a public meeting, Sharmila lambasted State government for deflating YSR schemes and adopting anti-people policies.
“One day Jagan will come and usher in YSR golden era,” drawing huge applause.
Farmers, students, women and workers are getting a raw deal and the Kiran Kumar Reddy government has failed on all fronts.
The Chief Minister has been talking tall but when it comes to deeds he is blanking out. The severe power crisis is affecting agriculture and many industries are closed down rendering many workers jobless.
In the state 80 lakh people are depended on textiles and the state has imposed high VAT on textiles and though they are protesting for 18 days, the government is indifferent.
“We stand for them. YS Jagan has advocated for abolishing of VAT and he promised that YSRCP will do away with VAT“ she said.
Recalling the welfare schemes implemented by YSR, she said one man has made all the difference. After his death all his welfare schemes were punctured and the Congress government has been neglecting all sections.
People lost faith in the Congress government; only TDP leader has full faith in the Kiran Kumar Reddy government which is the reason why he did not move a no confidence motion.
Naidu acted as World Bank agent and hiked the power charges time and again and was very harsh against the defaulters. Power sector got a beating during Chandrababu Naidu term while YSR has revived it and has waived power dues, she said.
