YSRCLP complains to Guv on Co-op rigging

Hyderabad,
Jan 7, 2013: A delegation of YSR Congress Legislature party members met
Governor E. S. L. Narasimhan here on Monday and complained of irregularities
taking place in the enrollment of members into the primary co-operative societies.

Reacting
to the complaint, the Governor assured the YSRCP delegation that he would speak
to the Registrar of the Co-operative societies immediately and seek an inquiry
into the irregularities.

The
delegation, consisting of Party MLAs Balineni Srinivasa Reddy, Gurnatha Reddy,
Srikanth Reddy and Sucharita, told the Governor that the new members are being
enrolled in the most undemocratic manner.

The
MLAs said in their memorandum submitted to the Governor that on a single day on
Dec 23, nearly 11 lakh voters were enrolled into the cooperative societies in a
hush-hush manner and the Government has even failed to publish the final voters’
list so far.

“There
is no transparency in the enrollment of members and the Government has been
resorting to heavy rigging in the enrollment with a view to gain political
advantage.  The unfair practices in the
enrollment programme are taking place at the behest of Ministers and MLAs,” the
MLAs pointed out in their memorandum.

The
delegation has requested the Governor to intervene in the manner and take steps
to weed out the illegal voters and ensure genuine voters are enrolled. Sinivasa
Reddy and other MLAs have appealed to the Governor to order an independent
probe in to the large scale rigging and punish the guilty officers responsible
for the illegalities.

“Unless
this is done, we are afraid, no purpose will be served in holding these
elections; nor will we be justified as a political party in participating in
these elections,” the delegation told the Governor.
