Vijayamma warns of starvation deaths

YSR Congress Party
honourary president Smt. Y.S. Vijayamma asked the Government to announce
immediate financial aid to the flood victims without waiting for a Central team
inspection or its reports.
Consoling the flood
victims at Tuni in East Godavari district and Payakarao Pet in Visakhapatnam
district after visiting several flood-hit areas on Wednesday, Vijayamma demanded
the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government to hike the ex-gratia to Rs.3 lakh from the
present Rs.1.5 lakh announced to the families of those killed in the floods.
She warned the
Government that flood victims would starve to death if no immediate aid is
announced to them.
Observing that the
Government is in deep slumber, she assured the victims YSRCP MLAs would bring
pressure on it to ensure quick relief to the affected farmers and others. She
asked the Government to order NAFED to buy the damaged coconut and announce
reasonable support price for other crops in the area.
“Don’t wait for the
Central teams or their reports for announcing financial relief. Immediate
financial relief is required to prevent the flood victims from starvation
deaths,” she told the Government.
“I have visited the
flood ravaged areas in the three districts of East and West Godavari and
Visakhapatnam but everywhere people are in distress as no immediate aid is
announced by the CM who visited some of the areas,” she lamented.
Walking through the
mud-filled and water-logged roads in most of the areas, Vijayamma told the
victims that she came to console them. She later inaugurated a free medical
camp organized by the party medical wing at Payakarao Pet.
