Ongole: Tense moments prevailed in the district after police attacked YSRCP leaders for halting the Nanded-Tirupati express as a part of their Rail Roko protest to bring pressure on the government to grant Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh. The rail roko is intiated by the YSR Congress Party to intensify the struggle for AP special status and to support the YSRCP MPs' hunger strike. The YSRCP leaders of Prakasam district Balineni Srinivasa Reddy and Varikuti Ashok Babu staged a protest near the train. The duo was forcefully dragged out by the police.
CI Ganga Venkateshwarlu attacked the YSRCP dalit leader Ashok Babu and flung him into a lorry. Enraged over the manhandling of the dalit leader, the party leaders and Balineni Srinivasa Reddy staged a protest against the police.
The Rail Roko has been intiated in constituencies like Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Vishakapatnam, Samarlakota, Rajahmundry, Eluru, Vijayawada, Guntur, Tenali, Ongole, Nellore, Renigunta, Chittoor, Kadapa, Guntakkal, Gooty, Kurnool and Anantapur.
