Kadapa: The YSR Congress Party undertook a massive protest here today, demanding the setting up of the Kadapa steel plant, as per the provisions of the AP Reorganisation Act. Party workers began their protest in the morning near the old collectorate building, after the leaders participating in the Mahadharna garlanded the statue of the late Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
Senior YSRCP leader Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy announced that protest programmes would be held till Tuesday, 26th, in Kadapa. Other leaders who took part in the protest included MLAs Raghurami Reddy, Ravindranath Reddy, Rachamallu Sivaprasad Reddy, Amjad Basha and Srikanth Reddy and MLC Govind Reddy. Mayor Suresh Babu, party leaders Amarnath Reddy and Venkatasubbiah were among those who took part in the Mahadharna.
Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy also stated that Mahadharna protests would be held tomorrow at Budvelu. Protests would also be staged at Rajampet on Monday, 25th and that fasts would be undertaken by the party leaders and cadre at Jammalamadugu.
YSRCP MLAs, MLCs, coordinators and party workers attended this morning's protest in large numbers. Demanding the setting up of the Kadapa steel plant, the party has called for a statewide bandh on Friday 29th, while on Wednesday, 27th, national highways would be blocked in protest.
It may be recalled that for past four years, the demand for the Kadapa steel plant led by the YSRCP, has been gathering momentum under the slogan 'Kadapa ukku, Rayalaseema hakku' (Kadapa steel is Rayalaseema's right)
