Unmindful to scorching heat this summer, state bandh called by opposition parties including YSR Congress party evoked a tremendous response from all sections in Andhra Pradesh. The main opposition party supported bandh to register a strong protest against the delay in according special status to the residuary state by the centre.
Public life has come to a grinding halt as people took to the streets and staged dharnas. Vehicular traffic has been suspended completely and the commercial establishments shut the whole day.
YSR Congress leaders held rallies and exposed the union and state governments indifference towards addressing the demand for special status. YSR Congress President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has been fighting for special status for the last four years. The Party MPs already quit their posts to the cause and also held an indefinite hunger strike in New Delhi.
Unheeded to the threats from the government that cases will be booked, the YSR Congress leaders actively participated in the dharna and made it a big success.
