AP observes peaceful bandh

Despite police efforts to foil state wide bandh on Friday called by the YSRCP in protest against the Government’s failure to address the tricky power situation, people across the state voluntarily participated in the bandh and made it successful.
While the Kiran Kumar Reddy government has asked the APSRTC management to run the buses with a view to foil the bandh, police resorted to preventive arrests of YSRCP activists in some places.
YSRCP leaders arrested
Police have arrested senior YSRCP leaders Gattu Ramachandra Rao and others at Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station in Hyderabad this morning.
While the RTC management ran skeleton services in the state capital, several business and commercial establishments and private offices remained closed due to bandh.
Over enthusiastic police in Vijayawada placed the YSRCP leader Vangaveeti Radhakrishna under house arrest leading to tension while Guntur district police took into preventive custody hundreds of farmers and party activists in several villages of Macharla division last night ahead of the bandh which began early this morning.
Following the arrests, Macharla MLA Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy and his supporters staged a dharna in front of the police station in the town and warned police not to be over enthusiastic during the bandh.
Police repression in Kadapa district
Police resorted to repressive measures in Kadapa district to foil the bandh. In Pulivendula, police dragged the YSRCP activists on roads before arresting them this morning.
YSRCP youth wing convener Avinash Reddy has run into an argument with the senior police officials present.
Arrests in Karimnagar district
Police have raided the houses of YSRCP leaders in Karimnagar district and arrested the party local leader Singireddy Bhaskar and four others this morning. Police have also arrested party leaders and activists in Jammikunta and Ramagundam as the bandh began across the district.
Reports said people are observing peaceful bandh in Khammam, Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, Nizambabad, Adilabad districts and other distrricts.
