*YSRCP backs Women’s Reservation Bill*

*YS Jagan set the benchmark*

Tadepalli, Vishakapatnam, Nellore, April 15: YSR Congress Party leaders Womens wing President Varudu Kalyani, state working president Kakani Poojitha, and Mayor Rayana Bhagyalakshmi and women leaders across the stated reiterated the party’s complete support for the Women’s Reservation Bill, stating that while the Centre has proposed 33% reservation in legislatures, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had already established a national model by implementing 50% reservation for women across local bodies, nominated posts, and even contracts through legislation.

They said YS Jagan’s tenure marked a defining phase for women’s empowerment, where representation translated into real authority. Women were entrusted with key governance roles, including a Deputy Chief Minister position, multiple Cabinet berths with critical portfolios, and Home Minister responsibilities in two phases. A Muslim woman was appointed as Legislative Council Deputy Chairperson for the first time, while women were elevated to top administrative roles such as Chief Secretary and State Election Commissioner. At the grassroots level, women held a majority of positions in local governance, and formed 53% of volunteers and 51% of secretariat employees.

They highlighted that women’s empowerment under YS Jagan extended beyond representation to safety and economic independence. Initiatives like the Disha Act, App, and dedicated police stations strengthened security, while welfare schemes such as Amma Vodi, Cheyutha, Asara, and fee reimbursement ensured financial stability. Over Rs. 2.74 lakh crore was directly transferred to women through DBT, significantly strengthening households and self-help groups.

Criticising the present coalition government, the leaders said it has failed both in protecting women and in delivering on its promises, allowing a climate of insecurity and disrespect to grow. They condemned objectionable remarks by TDP MP Byreddy Shabari and questioned the silence of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu even when a sitting woman MP faced humiliation. They accused TDP of having a consistent record of derogatory behaviour towards women, including on social media, and demanded an apology before speaking about women’s dignity.

They asserted that any discussion on women’s reservation must begin with YS Jagan’s proven model of empowerment, and affirmed that women across Andhra Pradesh continue to stand firmly with him.
