Anantapur, April 28: Former MLA Thopudurthi Prakash Reddy questioned why authorities have acted only against lower-level operatives in the sensational honey trap racket while allegedly shielding the masterminds behind it, and demanded a comprehensive and impartial probe. Addressing the media at the YSRCP district office, he stated that the racket, run through social media traps targeting affluent individuals, luring them with fake profiles, recording compromising videos, and extorting money and property, has severely damaged the reputation of Anantapur district.
While action has been taken against certain police personnel, including dismissals and suspensions, he alleged that the larger conspiracy involving political backing remains untouched. He termed it “absurd” to claim that key political figures have no connection to the case and asserted that such an organized operation could not function without political patronage, with allegations even pointing to collections running into crores.
Prakash Reddy further accused those in power of enabling a criminal network that exploits vulnerable women and coerces victims for financial gain, calling it a disgrace to governance. He demanded that the case be handed over to the CBI or CID for a fair investigation, stressing that merely punishing a few officials while ignoring the principal conspirators would be unacceptable and warning that the truth must be fully uncovered and those responsible brought to justice.
