150 days, 2000 km, Sharmila goes on…

Ravikampadu, (West
Godavari Dt) May 16, 2013: A tireless Smt. Y.S. Sharmila has completed walking
a distance of the 2000 km of her Maro Praja Prasthanam Padayatra this evening
when she had stepped into the Ravikampadu village of Chintalapudi constituency in
West Godavari district along with Party honourary president Smt. Y.S. Vijayamma
and other leaders.

Marking the occasion,
Smt. Vijayamma and Smt. Sharmila unveiled a 24-ft statue of Dr. YSR in the
village in the presence of thousands of activists who had followed her raising
‘Jai Jagan’ and ‘YSR Amar Rahe’ slogans.

The land for the YSR
statue was donated by a Muslim belonging to the village.

Sharmila, the first
woman in the country to achieve the feat, took 150 days to complete walking the
distance after she began her 3000-km walkathon on Oct 18 last from Idupulapaya.
During the length and breadth of the Padayatra encompassing ten districts,
Sharmila has so far walked through 67 constituencies and attended roughly 70
Rachchabanda programmes besides addressing 60 public meetings.  

She had completed the
500 km mark at Julakal in Vaddepally Mandalam of Mahabubnagar district on Nov
24, 2012, 1000 km mark at Kondrapol village in Nalgonda district on Feb 18,
2013 and the 1500 km mark at Pedana in Krishna District on April 3, 2013.

Before leading her
Padayatra into West Godavari District three days ago, Smt. Sharmila walked in
Kadapa (YSR), Anantapuram, Kurnool, Mahabubnagar, Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda,
Guntur, Krishna and Khammam districts.

She had covered 14
constituencies in Guntur district, 14 in Krishna district, 5 in Nalgonda
district, 8 in Khammam district. Earlier, she had trekked through 24
constituencies in YSR, Anantapuram, Kurnool, Mahbubnagar and Ranga Reddy
districts. In west Godavari district in which the Padayatra has been presently
going on, she has so far covered 2 constituencies.

Smt. Sharmila had to
take a break of six weeks during the walkathon when she sustained a hamstring
injury in her leg on Dec 15 at LB Nagar in RR district and underwent a keyhole
surgery at the Apollo Hospitals on Dec 18.She resumed the Padayatra on Feb 6.
