Tadepalli, Feb 24: Reiterating its demand for Opposition Party status YSRCP has said that is the natural choice of Opposition in the Assembly.
Speaking outside the Assembly here on Monday, YSRCP Council leader Botcha Satyarayana said, there are only two wings in the House, the coalition parties on one side in the treasury and thee opposition being YSRCP which forms the natural choice of Opposition Party.
We expressed our concern during the Governor’s address but there was no response. A democracy cannot function without an Opposition which is the voice of the people.
There is no option for the Government other than conceding to our demand of giving Opposition Party status to YSRCP.
Citing the recent example where the Government had alerted in jerk after our leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had visited to the Guntur Mirchi Yard to highlight the farmers’ issue. It was only after his visit that the coalition government in a knee jerk reaction has given the impression of taking action but still nothing significant happened.
The coalition has been telling that it is speaking with the Centre on the issue, but what is the outcome. A positive outcome would be there only by a persistent questioning from the Opposition.
While our leader visited the Mirchi Yard to interact with the farmers, cases were foisted citing election code and the code did not come into force for recreation activity a few days back. Government has to come to the rescue of mirchi farmers who are facing hardships due to slump in the price.
There are other major issues to be highlighted which only an Opposition can raise in the House on behalf of the people. The unfulfilled Super Six promises of which only one-and-a-half could come out and how various sections are being deceived do merit a mention in the House.
This can be effectively done only by the Opposition and if the coalition is not following the basic democratic norms by denying our rightful share in the House, the people’s voice cannot be heard in the full intensity and measure, he said.
Former Minster Peddireddy Ramachandara Reddy and others were also present.
