Tadepalli, June 26: Former Minister Seediri Appalaraju has launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, affirming that the state is experiencing an undeclared emergency reminiscent of the 1975 national crisis. Appalaraju criticised Naidu’s hypocrisy, pointing out that Naidu joined the Congress Party during the Emergency and served as a key ally to its architects, yet now portrays himself as an opponent of such measures.
"Chandrababu Naidu, who served as Cinematography Minister during the Emergency, is now preaching against it while imposing a similar oppressive regime in Andhra Pradesh," he said.
Appalaraju asserted that the state is witnessing an undeclared emergency, marked by rampant misuse of police powers, fabricated cases, and false evidence. He highlighted thousands of alleged wrongful cases and instances of torture over the past year, stating, "Equating the government foisting illegal cases to emergency, he slammed the administration and it's unchecked authority, particularly citing Minister Nara Lokesh’s role in fostering a climate of fear and lawlessness.
The former minister also criticized the government’s handling of industrial affairs, alleging that Naidu’s associates have driven away investors through intimidation and violence. "Who forced Jindal out of the state? Who attacked UltraTech Cement and Bhavya Cements? Who extorted breweries in Srikakulam and imposed restrictions on MyHome Cements?" Appalaraju questioned, accusing Naidu’s TDP cadre of orchestrating these acts. He further pointed to the imposition of a "chicken tax" of Rs. 10 per kilogram and attacks on Krishnapatnam Port as evidence of systemic industrial sabotage. "Naidu calls Jagan a demon, but who is truly scaring away industrialists?" he challenged.
Appalaraju also raised concerns about selective justice, citing incidents where TDP leaders, including Naidu, escaped accountability for fatal accidents involving their convoys. He referenced a 2015 case where a woman died in an accident involving Naidu’s convoy, a 2016 incident in Vijayawada where a youth was killed, and a recent case in Telangana involving Pawan Kalyan’s convoy, questioning why no cases were filed against these leaders. In contrast, he alleged that fabricated charges were filed against YSRCP leader Jagan Mohan Reddy based on a morphed video, with even bystanders facing legal action.
The former minister warned that widespread public discontent is growing, as evidenced by the government’s own surveys. The administration resorted to diversionary tactics to deflect criticism, stating, "Even intellectuals refuse to endorse this regime." Appalaraju concluded with a stark warning: "History shows that even the mightiest dictators have lost their empires. This government would do well to heed that lesson."
