YSRCP condemns harassment of village, ward secretariat employees

Tadepalli, May 29: The YSRCP Employees and Pensioners Wing State President Chandrasekhar Reddy strongly condemned the unjust actions taken against 40 regular employees of the Village Secretariat system by the Municipal Commissioner in Narasapuram, West Godavari district.
These employees, already burdened with excessive workloads and miscellaneous tasks under the P4 and APIO frameworks, were issued memos for failing to attend a meeting related to the "Yoga Andhra" program on the 26th of this month. The memos, which demand explanations within 48 hours and threaten disciplinary action, cause undue distress and fear among the workforce.
Such coercive actions are unacceptable and fail to acknowledge the employees' existing pressures or the lack of proper communication regarding the meeting.
Chandrasekhar asserts that the government’s approach, under the guise of promoting yoga, unfairly targets lower-level employees by imposing unrealistic registration targets and involving them in non-official duties, such as political events like the Mahanadu in Kadapa. Reports indicate that government officials, including district-level authorities, are being compelled to wear TDP tags and perform tasks akin to party workers, raising serious concerns about the misuse of public servants. In a disturbing incident, two Village Revenue Officers (VROs) sustained severe head injuries when cutouts fell on them during the event. Chandrasekhar questions, “If lives are lost, who will take responsibility? Who will support their families?” This blatant disregard for employees’ well-being and constitutional duties is a violation of their rights and the principles of governance.
He urges the government and political leaders to respect the sanctity of public service, ensuring employees are allowed to perform their official duties without fear or political interference. The employees' welfare association calls for clear adherence to rules and regulations, emphasizing that government employees are not party workers but public servants bound by constitutional obligations. “YSRCP demands an immediate halt to such exploitative practices. Any further disciplinary actions against these employees will face strong resistance, and those responsible will face consequences,” he warned.
