YSRCP Alleges Irregularities In MSP Centres

Amaravathi: The minimum support price (MSP) centres set up by the State government are not living up to the envisaged goal of buying produce from farmers, YSR Congress Party Farmers’ Wing president M V S Nagireddy has alleged
The YSR Congress Farmers’ Wing members met Civil Supplies Commissioner D. Varaprasad on Tuesday along with several other farmers’ organisations to represent various problems faced by farmers in the State.
Speaking to press persons, he alleged that farmers are being turned away by officials and staff at the minimum support price centres on pretext of non-availability of gunny bags. They were asked to buy bags from private mill traders, he said.
“Due to such issues, farmers have no option but to sell their produce directly to private mill traders. As a result, farmers are losing nothing less than Rs 200 per bag,” he pointed out.
On the other hand, the private mill traders are falsely depicting in the records that they are actually buying the produce from the MSP centres, where the farmers are selling their produce directly, he alleged.
He appealed to the Civil Supplies Commissioner that the government should come to the rescue of farmers who were already battling unseasonal rains and floods in the State. He sought stringent action against those who buy produce from farmers at a price less than MSP set by the government.
