Tadepalli, May 21: YSRCP former minister Karumuri Nageswara Rao strongly condemns the systematic destruction of transformative welfare reforms introduced by former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. These reforms are widely recognized as a model for other states, prioritized the poor and marginalized, ensuring equitable access to essential services. However, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu dismantled these people-centric initiatives with a callous disregard for the livelihoods of thousands.
The Mobile Delivery Unit (MDU) system, a revolutionary mechanism for doorstep ration delivery, has been a lifeline for the poor. This system, which proved its worth during crises like the Godavari and Vijayawada floods, ensured timely access to essential supplies. Yet, Naidu’s government has abruptly terminated this initiative, leaving 20,000 families associated with MDUs and 2.6 lakh volunteers jobless. “The decision to dismantle the MDU system is not just shortsighted; it is a deliberate attack on the poor,” Rao asserted.
He further criticized the government for removing 10,000 families employed in wine shops while simultaneously allowing doorstep liquor delivery, questioning the logic of halting ration distribution in favor of such measures.
Karumuri highlighted the government’s plan to phase out ration shops entirely, pointing to the filing of 6A cases to justify their closure and accusing the administration of fostering corruption under the guise of reform. “This is a sadistic mindset aimed at oppressing the poor and middle class,” he charged.
YSRCP demands transparency on the so-called “Cease the Ship” episode, questioning why the government has failed to disclose details about the rice seized and the case’s status. “Instead of accountability, they are spinning stories like ‘Start the Ship’ to distract the public,” Rao added.
The YSRCP stands firmly with MDU operators and pledges to fight to restore this vital system. “If the government does not reinstate the MDU vehicles and address these injustices, the YSRCP will launch large-scale protests to protect the rights of the people,” Rao warned. He called on the government to clarify what irregularities occurred through the MDU system and stop reforms that empowered the underprivileged.
