Amaravati: The Legislative Assembly has passed the Andhra Pradesh Lokayukta (Amendment) Act 2019 enabling the appointment of Lokayukta.
The amendment to the Act creates a provision for appointing a retired chief justice or a retired judge of High Court as Lokayukta.
Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has said that since five years the previous government has kept the mater pending and could not make a simple amendment to the Bill as it has scant respect for the institution.
During the past five years, the previous government was not serious and could not make small changes that would enable to the setting up of Lokayukta.
The changes required were to include the names of retired Chief Justice or retired Judge of a High Court in the Act.
